The Unsolved Disappearance of Corey Edkin

Image result for Corey Edkin

2 year old Corey Edkin lived with his mother Debbie S. Derr in her apartment along with his 5 year old sister, His mothers roommate Alberta Sones, and her two children. His mother left him sleeping in her bed at 12:10 am on October 12, 1986 to go to a nearby convenience store, leaving him with her roommate and the other children. When she returned at 12:40am, she discovered her son gone. He has not been seen since.

Case Details

Upon investigation, the authorities questioned the other people in the home at the time. Sones claimed that she had not seen the child leave the home since the mother left, nor had anybody entered. She also claimed there were never any unusual noises.

At the time of his disappearance his parents were divorced, however neither parent is considered a suspect in this case. Investigators were able to confirm that Debbie did indeed go to the store at the time she said. Neither of his parents or family members are considered suspects.

Many different family members received ransom phone calls after the disappearance, his grandmother as recent as January 1991. The callers have never been identified.

Theories

With so little information that I was able to find, There are limited theories.

His mother

It could be speculated that his mother could have done something before leaving to go to the store. Perhaps there was an accident and fearing the consequences, she go rid of the body. While this theory could be possible it is unlikely. The authorities do not consider her a suspect, and the other people in the home did not hear any commotion. Her story also checked out, making any involvement unlikely.

Alberta Sones

Some believe there could have been some sort of accident while Corey's mother was gone, and she convinced the others in the home to keep quiet. Again while this could have happened, it is also unlikely. I don't see his 5 year old sister keeping quiet when her mother came home and asked her where her brother was. Not to mention they were cleared of involvement, and they all passed a polygraph test (if that means anything to you).

His father

Some people wonder if maybe Corey could have been abducted by his father, however his father was also cleared of involvement and is not considered a suspect in the case.

Stranger kidnapping

This is the most likely option. A stranger kidnapped Corey without being detected and possibly even made a ransom call, but was overshadowed by all the other calls coming in. After that we can only guess at what they might have done with him afterwards. All we know that the child has not been seen since.

Important Details

Corey Edkin was 2 years old at the time of his disappearance. He was a white male with blonde hair and blue eyes. he was 3'0" and weighed 30lbs. If still alive today, he would be 33 years old.
